History

The museum originally opened in 2013 as Dallas Museum of Nature and Science, but was renamed in 2013 after Margot Perot's philanthropic contributions made her a major donor. The family had previously donated funds to the creation of the Henson Robinson Zoo.

The Perot family has a history of philanthropy. They had previously donated funds to the creation of the Henson Robinson Zoo in Springfield, Illinois. Once construction on the new museum began, they donated over $50 million to ensure its success. For this reason and many more, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is a major attraction in Dallas.
